Philosophy Group
We all ask questions ; we may perhaps find answers. Philosophy is potentially life-changing. Unabating curiosity is the best qualification for any would-be philosopher, together with the aim try to think critically.
The Group meets on alternate Mondays at the Library Meeting Room. Each session lasts for two hours, brief notes being provided to structure the discussions which may , for instance, be "How Free Are You?" which happens to be the title of a popular paper-back by a philosopher of high repute, and is all about the ever- intriguing problem of free will. "What Is This Thing Called Science?"is the title of another series of class discussions, as well as being a very readable little book on the philosophy of science .
There is much to be discovered in philosophy, and a lot of it gives insight into the ways in which we have structured our ideas and formed our individual lifestyles. In our sessions we touch upon the nervous system, psychology, artificial intelligence, physics, evolution, mythology, fine art and anthropology, all of which provide us with facts and illustrations.
All are welcome to attend one or two taster sessions, so why not come along and see if you like being a student in our friendly group of philosophers?
