Music Appreciation Group
The Group meets on alternate Tuesday mornings at 10.15am.for two hours at The Friends Meeting House, St. Helen’s Street. We listen to recorded classical music which is presented by a team of seven members.
Programmes depend on the preference and CD collection of the presenter on the day which means we listen to a wide range of music overall. Additionally other members present their music selections from time to time. Consequently, we have had programmes of English, American, French, German, Spanish and Russian music as well as mixed programmes and occasionally we have an illustrated musical talk.
A pre-Christmas feature is the request programme on the last session of the Autumn term when short items of members’ music are played.
Occasional visits are arranged to hear live music, in particular at the Djanogly Recital Hall at Nottingham University. Our current venue has scope to accommodate more members who have an interest in classical music.
The programme for Tuesday 16th February is:
An all Rachmaninov programme:
‘Isle of the Dead’.....The Paganini Variations and his 3rd Symphony.
