Local Studies Group
The Group's meeting is from 2pm to 4pm fortnightly on a Monday at the Friends Meeting House. At the moment the meeting consists of a talk by the group leader of about 1 1/4 hours, during which time we also study source material, a copy of which is reproduced for each member - it may be in the form of words, plans or illustrations. We started with a study of eighteenth century Derby, but this has been broadened with a study of offshoot subjects; at the moment we are having a fairly in-depth look at the development of gardens, relating this particularly to what we have left in Derbyshire. In the last half hour of the meeting, we have a chat and a cup of tea. During the summer term we usually manage to make a few visits, related to our studies. The atmosphere is fairly informal, and members are welcome to make an input to the subject under discussion.
